# Subtraction of Fractions

We have just finished subtraction  of fractions. This tutorial has 5 parts. The first and second parts are on subtraction of similar and dissimilar fractions. The third part is on mixed fractions. The fourth and fifth parts discuss strategies and techniques to make computations easier.

SF1 Subtraction of Fractions (Similar Fractions)

In this video, we learn how to subtract similar fractions. Similar fractions are fractions whose denominators are equal. Examples are 1/5 and 2/5 are similar fractions.

SF2 Subtraction of Fractions (Dissimilar Fractions)

In this video, we learn how to subtract dissimilar fractions. Dissimilar fractions are fractions whose denominators are different. Examples are 1/2 and 3/4 are dissimilar fractions.

SF3 Subtraction of Fractions (Mixed Fractions)

In this video, we learn how subtract fractions. In this method, we convert mixed fractions to improper fractions.

SF4 Subtraction of Mixed Fractions Part 1 (Shortcut)

In this video, we learn how to subtract mixed fractions by avoiding conversion to mixed fractions. This will make the computation a lot easier.

SF5 Subtraction of Mixed Fractions Part 2 (Shortcut)

This is a continuation of the video on subtracting mixed fractions by without conversion to mixed fractions.

# SF5 Subtraction of Mixed Fractions Part 2 (Shortcut)

In SF4, we learned a shortcut method on subtracting fractions. In this video, we are going to learn the methods and strategies in subtracting fractions using the borrowing technique. Watch the video above and answer the exercises below.  Continue reading

# SF4 Subtraction of Mixed Fractions Part 1 (Shortcut)

In SF3, we have learned to subtract mixed fractions by converting them to improper fractions. In this video, we learn how to subtract mixed fractions using the “borrow technique,” a method patterned from subtraction of whole numbers. In this technique, we avoid converting mixed fractions to improper fractions. This lessens the calculations and reduces the chance of computational error. Watch the video above to learn about this technique. After watching, answer the exercises below.  Continue reading

# SF3 Subtraction of Fractions (Mixed Fractions)

In SF2, we have learned how to subtract mixed fractions. In this video, we learn how to subtract mixed fractions or fractions that contain whole numbers. Watch the video above and after watching, answer the exercises below.  Continue reading
