SF2 Subtraction of Fractions (Dissimilar Fractions)

In this video, we learn to how to subtract dissimilar fractions or fractions with different denominators. Subtraction of dissimilar fractions is very similar to addition of dissimilar fractions. First, you have to get the LCM of the denominators of the given fractions and then convert them to similar fractions.

1.) \frac{1}{2} - \frac{1}{3}

2.) \frac{2}{5} - \frac{1}{4}

3) \frac{11}{12} - \frac{3}{4}

4.) \frac{7}{15} - \frac{1}{6}

5.) \frac{11}{6} - \frac{4}{9}

Answer to Practice Exercises

1.) \frac{1}{6}

2.) \frac{3}{20}

3.) \frac{1}{6}

4.) \frac{3}{10}

5.) \frac{25}{18} or 1 \frac{7}{18}

    I don’t get item number 5 in the practice exercise, why is the answer 67/72 when the common denominator of 6 and 9 is only 18, the answer I got was 25/18. I’ll appreciate if you can explain the solution for me. Thanks.
